Family traditions since 1894

Company founder Carl Schaller began making papier-mâché figures as early as 1894 in Meilschnitz in Upper Franconia. They were modeled by Carl and then decorated by the entire family - including the children. Carl Schaller's son Ino took over the manufactory in the 1940s and has continued to run it under his name ever since. After the old tradition was almost suppressed and died out in the 50s, Thomas Schaller rediscovered the figurines in the 80s. He was so fascinated by the figurines and decided to rebuild the manufactory and has been running it very successfully ever since. Today the Santa Clauses and seasonal figurines are more in demand than ever and are exported all over the world.

Santa Clause made of Papier Mâché

Especially for seasonal festivities such as Easter, Halloween and Christmas, the colorful papier-mâché figures are a real highlight. They are made of cardboard, cellulose, stoneware paste and other ingredients that result in a liquid mass, which can be wonderfully shaped and becomes very stable after drying. For our assortment we have chosen the Santa Clauses and Santa Clauses and together with Thomas Schaller we have created our own collection entirely according to our wishes: noble, elegant and with a touch of luxury. Due to the fact that each product is made by hand, the manufactory can customize each product and exclusive productions are possible according to the customer's wishes. For example, Schaller has already successfully exported Santa Clauses with summer outfits to Hawaii.

A talk with Thomas Schaller

With the boom in plastics in the 1950s, the manufactory almost died out. Managing director Thomas Schaller told us in an interview how it was revived and what makes the papier-mâché figures so special. We visited him in his studio and chatted about family tradition, his everyday life and, of course, his favorite Santa Claus, and were also allowed to marvel at Santa Clauses of a special kind.
