The Coyoacan jute rug
The Coyoacan jute rug from the L'Accessoire 2024 collection by Élitis is artfully woven from pure jute. Coyoacán was originally an independent village outside Tenochtitlán, the capital of the Aztec empire. After the Spanish conquest, it was integrated into the urban area of Mexico City. In the early 1920s, Coyoacán became a popular place of residence for artists and intellectuals, including the famous Mexican artist Frida Kahlo and her husband Diego Rivera. Today, Coyoacán is a vibrant neighborhood with a rich history, cultural diversity and a unique atmosphere that attracts visitors to experience Mexico's heritage.
The carpet is therefore reminiscent of a bohemian neighborhood in Mexico City and offers a perfectly symmetrical arrangement. The jute weaves are arranged close together. They are reminiscent of a particular urban geometry, energetic and lively.
