Exquisite pottery from Nuremberg

Pottery is one of the oldest professions in Nuremberg. Dörte and Jörg Kaiser carry on this tradition with their Ton Stein Gut manufactory. Their fine pottery is anything but old-fashioned. The tableware is handmade from stone or clay. It is then painted or glazed with graphic patterns. The pieces are refined with precious metals such as gold or platinum. A special process is used for this, the so-called gold firing. The result is luxurious bowls, cups and dishes that perfectly complement any modern home.

Ton Stein Gut: Refined with gold and platinum

"In the beginning, the clay. Then everything turned! Created with the hands and provided with fire. Clay, stone, good (Ton, Stein, Gut)." is how the small manufactory describes its working process with the natural materials. What sounds very simple is a difficult process that requires trained hands and a lot of expertise - and a lot of time. Especially the finishing technique with gold and platinum is lengthy: the clay has to be fired twice before the precious metal preparation with 12% fine gold or 9% platinum can be applied. In the third firing, the metal is melted onto the ceramic. The refined pieces spend about 120 hours in the kiln.
