The publishing house Thames & Hudson was founded in 1949 by Walter Neurath in Austria. It remains an independent family business and is one of the largest publishers of illustrated books, with over 2,000 titles in print. Its extensive publications include illustrated books on art, architecture, design, photography, fashion, film and the performing arts, as well as archaeology, history and popular culture. The aim was to use the books to make the world of art and the research of top scientists accessible to the general public.
