The founders Magnus Skogsberg and Mimmi Smart, to whom the company owes its name, established the brand in 2008. Together they have over 30 years of experience in the creative advertising and media industry. They founded the company together to give their creativity and ingenuity a space and channel it. Their first own product was the introduction of the mouth-blown Hurricane Lamp. Today, the company is also a manufacturer of customized home accessories. Since then, a whole series of exquisite glass pieces have been created that are able to complement any sophisticated ambience. Neighbors' house fire paves the way for stylish lanterns
When the two founders first met, they were both working in different fields: Mimmi as an art director with a great enthusiasm for glass and Magnus as a stylist and fashion buyer. Their creative journey together began with the renovation of their two homes - Magnus' cottage outside Copenhagen and Mimmi's Pippi Longstocking-style villa. The impetus for starting their business in 2008, however, was a dramatic experience: Magnus' entire neighboring house burned down in less than half an hour. For him, who has always loved candles, this was a momentous experience. His experience in production coupled with Mimmi's expertise in the art of glassblowing and their shared eye for design and the finer things in life led to an idea and, little by little, a realized project. An artisan design that had never been seen on the market before: the Hurricane Lamp, an unusual vessel in which candles could burn safely, was born.
Genuine craftsmanship merges with sustainability
The fact that Skogsberg&Smart still supports and ensures genuine craftsmanship inspires customers all over the world. They are also committed to ensuring that hand-blown glass continues to exist for generations to come. The combination of fire and glass is the living thing in the manufacturing process: just warm and flowing, a moment later clear, cool and sparkling. This fascination has a magical and attractive effect during production. To produce their lanterns and vases, they went to the place in the world where the best glassblowers can be found - Bohemia in the Czech Republic. In close cooperation with the local specialists, the best quality is ensured for each mouth-blown glass. The glass mass is first blown into a special cast iron mold by mouth, then the bubbles are formed by hand. This creates a sparkling effect that makes Skogsberg&Smart glasses unique. Used and recycled glass is used for new designs. In this way, waste is avoided and unused products can be reused. This is probably the most sustainable way of manufacturing.
