Riedel: Shape follows function
Wine glasses traditionally consist of three components: Goblet, stem and base. Riedel's varietal-specific glasses are particularly characterised by a finely tuned goblet with the following variables: Shape, size and diameter of the rim of the glass. The glass must convey the four sensory impressions of the beverage accordingly. These include the aroma, texture, taste and reverberation of the wine. Of course, it all depends on the quality of the wine, but the vessel can play a significant role in conveying this quality. For example, the colour of the glass plays just as important a role as its wall thickness and size.
Revolutionary wine glasses
Maximilian J. Riedel is currently the eleventh generation of his family to run the traditional Kufstein-based company Riedel Glas. The managing director is particularly known for the O series, which he designed and launched on the market in 2004. The glass series without stem received numerous awards for its revolutionary shape and changed the perception of luxurious glassware worldwide.
