Mater stands for minimalist aesthetics and recycled materials

Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consetetur sadipscing elitr, sed diam nonumy eirmod tempor invidunt ut labore et dolore magna Mater is Latin and means mother. The name of the brand is a small remembrance of the contribution we can make to reduce the hardships our mother earth faces every day. The brand was founded in Copenhagen in 2006 by Henrik Marstrand. Since then, it has stood for ethical design and for the effort to change our perception of furniture. By influencing people's behaviour and thus buying less, we can ensure more sustainability. Quality products and durable design help to reduce the impact on our environment. Mater focuses on minimalist aesthetics and recycled materials to change the way we think about good design. The brand is based on established design and solid craftsmanship. All materials used are of sustainable origin and are made in a traditional way. Learn more about Mater's concept for success.

Let’s Clean the Oceans – The Outdoor Collection

The preservation of "life under water" is one of Mater's most important goals. For this, they have partnered with the only upcycling facility for fishing nets in the world. A new, innovative business model motivates fishermen all over the world to send their used fishing nets to the facility. In search of a suitable design for this new production method, they entered into dialogue with one of the oldest and most respected design families in Denmark: Dennie Ditzel, the head of the design heritage after the late Nanna and Jørgen Ditzel. Together they have searched for designs that are ideal for making from upcycled fish nets. The result is the amazing outdoor collection called "Ocean". This includes a table and a chair in different colours.

How design influences the environment

Design influences how we live our lives and it shapes our society and culture. Many design processes have a great impact on our environment. It is therefore imperative to consider the consequences of this. As a manufacturer, Mater has the opportunity to rethink and implement this environmentally conscious concept in its products.
